2007 IPRA World Champion Heeler
Jory Levy
Jared Standridge of Dennard, AR was another “third time’s a charm” cowboy with IFR38 marking his third trip to the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City. Standridge and heeling partner, Jory Levy of Twin Oaks, OK pulled off another gold buckle upset. Levy, who made his fifth IFR appearance said, “Winning the world really came as a surprise to me. I thought in the back of my mind that we could do it, but didn’t know for sure. We really put the heat on the other guys there at the end and it worked out really good.”
“It felt good to get it done,” said Jared referring to winning the world championship. “Jory and I started roping together in July. He only went to about 24 rodeos and I went to 34. We really had a good summer.”
The team’s good luck carried over to their IFR venture as well. In the first round Jared turned the steer for Jory to get his loop under and drawn tight in 10.2 seconds. A 4.8 second run took the win in the second round and applied some pressure on the other teams that were within gold buckle range. Jared and Jory received a disappointing time in the third round of 13.7 seconds, but remained alive in the average. A repeat run of 4.8 seconds that was good enough to take the win in round two, didn’t even place in the fourth round as the ropers had found their grooves and were going for broke. The round went to Jake Weddle and Josh Canant with a smoking 3.7 second run. Standridge and Levy’s four solid runs earned them third in the average and enough money in the bank to earn each cowboy their first IPRA World Champion Header and Heeler title. “They were only giving one gold buckle to a heeler, and I’m glad it was me,” said Levy. “Somebody was going to win it.”
“I had the opportunity to rope and travel with some really great partners this year. Jory and I traveled with Jake Weddle and Josh Canant,” said Jared. “I’m looking forward to the ’08 rodeo season and plan to be back at the finals next year.”
“I loved going to the IPRA rodeos this year,” commented Jory. “It brought the fun back to rodeoing. Josh, Jake, and Jared all rope so well, it was great. To have four guys together in one truck that all rope good, it just makes it fun to go. I want to make it back to the IFR next year.”
